Emily Jacir: Europa

Edited by Emily Jacir and Omar Kholeif

Emily Jacir: Europa coincides with the artist's first major institutional survey exhibition in the UK and Ireland.

The focus of the exhibition and catalogue is Jacir's manifold practice in Europe, in particular Italy and the Mediterranean. As poetic as it is political and biographical, her work investigates various histories of colonization, exchange, transformation, resistance, movement and migration. Jacir has built a complex and compelling oeuvre through a diverse range of media and methodologies that include unearthing historical material, performative gestures and in-depth research. The projects in Jacir's Europa also explore etymology and translation, the tension between figuration and abstraction and the intertwining  of socio-economic structures.

This fully illustrated catalogue features original essays by Jean Fisher, Lorenzo Fusi, Omar Kholeif, Nikos Papastergiadis and Graziella Parati, as well as an excerpt from Franco Cassano chosen by the artist.
